The measure

Timberland's library levy has not increased in 25 years. This measure raises it from $0.22 per $1,000 of assessed property value to $0.35 — an increase of 13 cents. For most households that is an increase of between $3 and $6 a month. That funds local branch staff, longer open hours, and larger collections at the branch nearest you.

What's at stake

Timberland Regional Library serves Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Thurston counties through 29 libraries and the Anywhere Library mobile service. It lends books, ebooks, newspapers, magazines and assistive devices, and offers computers and Wi-Fi, printing, career and job help, and community programs, all free.

The library levy provides 96% of TRL's budget, and TRL has not had a full levy rate in 25 years. Districtwide staffing has fallen from about 251 full-time positions in 2016 to 182 as of August 2026.

If the levy lid lift passes, TRL will provide more open, staffed hours and days throughout the district.

If it fails, TRL says it will:

  • Significantly reduce open, staffed hours across the district.
  • Have a smaller digital and physical collection, with longer wait times.
  • Reduce Anywhere Library mobile services.
  • Rely on card-access-only unstaffed hours at branches that have Expanded Access.
  • Delay essential building maintenance.

What it costs at your house

For most households this measure is an increase of between $3 and $6 a month. Enter your home's assessed value below for your own figure. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere.

The library levy is currently 22 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. This measure raises it to 35 cents. These figures cover the library portion of your property tax bill only, and do not include schools, fire districts, roads, or any other taxing district.

Get involved

The campaign is looking for volunteers in all five counties: doorbelling and tabling at events. Endorsements from business owners, elected officials, and community organizations are also welcome.
